Cohabitation Agreement
Cohabitation or a common-law relationship is when a couple lives together in a long-term relationship without being married. More and more couples are choosing to live together prior to, or instead of, marriage.
Couples can enter into a cohabitation agreement that sets out the terms in the event of a relationship breakdown to address rights regarding property, financial support, and children. Our Mediator will meet with each of you to negotiate the terms of the agreement in a positive and non-confrontational space. Then our Mediator drafts the cohabitation report outlining the negotiations and we will connect you with a Lawyer to draft the report into a legal cohabitation agreement.
Having a third party such as a Mediator aid you in the cohabitation agreement decisions, can support your relationship to continue on the right and positive path. Conversations can get muddy and it is our goal to support the love and respect that you both have for each other throughout this process.
Prenuptial Agreement
A prenup is an agreement that couples enter into prior to marriage. If there are pre-marriage assets and/or debts, a prenuptial agreement lays out the division and support in the event of a marriage breakdown.
Prenups are becoming more common as the age of marriage has increased and multiple marriages are now commonplace. We know that it sounds cold and pessimistic to prepare for a marriage to breakdown, but we are realists and understand the world of divorce. Why not be prepared for the worst but plan for the best?
Our Mediator will meet with each of you to negotiate the terms of a prenuptial agreement. Those terms are drafted into a negotiated report and we will connect you with a Lawyer to draft the report into a legal prenuptial agreement as well as receiving independent legal advice.
Maes Divorce works to keep the love alive in your relationship while creating an agreement that you can know is there, and hopefully never have to use it. Have your prenuptial agreement in Cochrane.
